These are the shelves I have been given. They look a bit dirty etc but its just the photo's ambience! They are pretty much brand new. However they are not what I thought they would be and I think they might be too big (too big shelves). We can use them but I just think maybe too big (about 6 x 3 ft)

Shelves?

Badge Maker

Last year I brought a badge maker and haven't used it much, but thought if we wanted we could make badges with are work on for New Blood. If we chose to do this everyone would have to put some money in to pay for the materials, but I would be willing to do it.

Portfolio Ideas

MUJI - A3 portfolio
The image is terrible so you can't really see it. Also comes in A4.

MUJI - Box files
Maybe another option but only A4.

Also, not really relevant but a nice idea, folders made from the same material as the tag on the back of ones jeans - Denim Tag folder

Deck Chairs

Further to Andrews suggestion of having some personalized deck chairs, this could be quite an interesting and practical idea. Quote Andrew....'whats the point in having a chair? cause we're bloody sitting down and your standing up mate!'

DEAR IVAN

Sorry your surname does not appear in the title of the blog. I will take out Basnett and Humphreys and put yours in when I get a chance.
Glad you are using the blog though.

Daniel

A piece of home.

Perhaps literally take a piece of Hastings with us in the Jars. Or perhaps being abit too ambitious, make likely scenes of Hastings from railway miniatures or drawings of? A doll lying drunk on a piece of road, a small model fishing boat floating in Hastings Sea water? Just a thought.

Give it a glow!

Going on the conversation we had about weird victorian sciences and experiments, Glowing liquid shouldn't be hard to achieve if we wanted to put items into it. I think you can do it quite well with Energy drinks such as relentless as it's bright green and the stuff inside of glow sticks. Make some interesting labels and seal it up and there you have your own radioactive... whatever.

DISPLAY

I'm a big fan of black boards and chalk. It has a really nice look about it and could be used to make any display we have a little more interesting. Possibly. It has a 'curiosity cabinet' feel to it.

JARS / BOTTLES

I think these jars and bottles look quite nice, I imagine they are quite easy to make and might look better than any jars we could buy. Not see through though so that rules out putting anything inside them but perhaps the way we shape or distress them we could 'suggest' what is trapped inside by the cork.
We could also draw in them or print on them.

Advice from Michael Johnson

of Johnson Banks

The emphasis in the future may be towards curated digital shows, in the way that colleges have sneakily done for years. It’s no accident that the best students will often get prime position near entrances and exits, where the light is good and you’re well away from the bar. The selection gets even more savage when you get to the shows like New Blood, when over 130 colleges vie for the attention of thousands of visitors and each tries something a little different, trying to stand out in the semi trade-show environment of units, cubicles and ever present lounging students. The brave ones put sofas on their stalls and let the students lounge in public, but that’s always a recipe for disaster.

I wasnt at the last meeting so Im unsure what was decided but David McG kindly sent me an email and said the idea was to inject an aspect of Hastings into the display without it being to over the top or gimicky (my words).

Emily May said that there was a mention of jars and bottles and Id already been looking into curiosty cabinets. dont know how relevant it will be but just some ideas.

I like the idea of a message in a bottle too.

GROVELING APOLS!

The blog went down for a while today but is back up and running. Please sign up to blogger so that we can all start posting our ideas and thoughts.

HELLO

I thought it might be a good idea to create a more convenient and useful ideas board for our new blood space. As we aren't going to be in college that much over the next few weeks I thought that we could keep each other up to date with ideas and thoughts a bit easier this way. Everyone has been invited to be an author for this blog so hopefully everyone will be able to add links, images, ideas and opinions.
I am drawing up some templates of our exhibition space which you should be able to download from the blog and draw over, scribble on or add images to. I am more than happy to draw up your ideas too if you want, I think this will help everyone to visualise the ideas clearly.

Let me know if you think this is a bad idea.

Love Dan

EXHIBITION SPACE TEMPLATES

Some templates I made. I think these could be useful for scribbling down ideas and planning the look of our space. Drag them to your desktop and start sketching, Or make paper aeroplanes with them.
